It is the duty of the Ste. Genevieve County Recorder of Deeds office to record and preserve all records in our office.
The public can come into our office to search our records & purchase copies of transactions. The public can also go online to view & search our documents. We are indexed and images are scanned back to 1896. If you wish to search & print documents online, we offer different subscriptions for you to choose from. The IDOC link is below.
Duties of our office
- Record and preserve documents pertaining to land transactions and other miscellaneous documents that comply with Missouri Statutes for a fee.
- Issue & record marriage licenses & provide copies to the public for a fee.
- File Military discharges (DD214) & provide copies at no charge.
- Provide copies/certified copies of public records for a fee.
- Assist the public in locating records.
Document Recording
Our staff will check your document to be sure it meets all statutory requirements for recording, but cannot:
- Give legal advice;
- Perform title or lien searches;
- Complete or fill out/type deeds;
- Supply blank legal forms;
- Determine ownership of a property;
- Verify that the document fulfills the intentions of the party recording the document;
- Provide notary public services for any document to be recorded.
The Recorder of Deeds office only records documents and advises its customers to consult with a real estate attorney or title company in preparing any deeds pertaining to real estate property.
Cost of Deed Recording
$24.00 for the first page, $3.00 each additional page. A $25 non-standard fee will be added if the document does not meet the State of Missouri document formatting requirements.
Marriage License Information
Both parties must appear together at the Recorder's Office with proper identification: Government issued photo ID (Driver's License, Non-Driver's License, Military ID, or Passport)

- Marriage applications are taken from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. It is preferred that you call ahead to make an appointment.
- Marriage Licenses are valid for thirty (30) days from the date of issuance and may be used anywhere within the State of Missouri except for the City of St. Louis.
- Marriage License fee is $51.00. CASH is accepted or DEBIT/CREDIT with an added convenience fee. Fee to be paid at the time of application. PERSONAL CHECKS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
- You are responsible for delivering the license to the officiant who solemnizes your marriage.
- The officiant must complete the marriage license, then return it to the Recorder's Office within 15 days after the wedding.
- Certified copy of marriage license: Fee is $9.00. A certified copy of a marriage license is as good as your original and can be used for any legal purpose including renewing driver's license and social security.
Guidelines For Marriage Officiants:
- It is the officiant's responsibility by State law to complete and sign the bottom portion of the license and promptly return the license to the County recorder's office within 15 days.
- It is the officiant's responsibility by State law to complete and sign the certificate and give it to the couple following the wedding ceremony.
- It is the officiant's responsibility to obtain the witnesses' signatures on the license and certificate.
- It is the officiant's responsibility by State law to keep a record of all marriages performed.
- Officiants are not required to provide documentation to the Recorder's office of being in good standing with any church or synagogue in this state.

How does Document Alert work?

Is there a charge to use Document Alert?
There is no charge to sign up and receive email alerts. Document images may be viewed on iDoc Market for a subscription fee, or users may request a copy of the document by calling or visiting the Recorder's office.
Document Alert Instructions
Step 1
Go to iDoc Market http://www.idocmarket.com
and click on the shield next to "Document Alerts."
Step 2
To register the first time, select "Click here to register for iDoc Market" and follow the prompt to enter your email address. An email will be sent to the email address provided if found. Check your email, including your spam folder, and follow the link to complete your registration.
Step 3
Once logged in, select "Missouri" from the list, then navigate to "Ste. Genevieve County" and click the Document Alerts shield. This will take you to the "Manage Your Account" screen. Click "Document Alert Setup," read the disclaimer and if you agree click "Agree & Continue"
Step 4
Under Add Alert section, select Sainte Genevieve, MO
Step 5
Choose Grantor (Seller) and/or Grantee (Buyer) from the field dropdown and enter your information exactly as you want it to be searched. Type last name before first name as that is how our documents are indexed.
These should be entered using various combinations in separate alerts.
Examples:

▪ Grantee: Last & First
▪ Grantor: Last First Middle
▪ Grantee: Last First Middle
▪ Grantor: Last First Middle Initial
▪ Grantee: Last First Middle Initial
Choose "Save Alert" after each name you want to register. Your information will appear under "Existing Alerts." You can edit or remove your alerts at any time by clicking on the icons next to a saved alert.
Do not enter a parcel number as our office does not index by parcel number. It is recommended to not enter a Document number or Legal description as well, just the names you want to register.
You will now receive email alerts whenever a document is recorded that matches your specified criteria.
